Love is a Rocking Wave

Several years ago I read Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass and her writing allowed me to discover the reciprocal relationships that make up our ecosystems.

It was through this book that I learnt a lesser known story of the dandelion. This resilient golden flower is commonly defined as a weed in Western gardening and often found in places where the soil has been disturbed or degraded. However this plant is in fact a pioneer species that grows deep tap roots into the ground that enrich the nutrient cycle of the soil. Their flowers are an early food source for pollinators and their seeds are eaten by birds, small mammals and deer.

Far from being useless 'weeds', dandelions play a vital role in the restoration of ecosystems.

This discovery inspired me to write ‘Love is a Rocking Wave’, an anthem for the single dandelion that transforms a hopeless landscape into a forest teeming with life and love. The dandelion reminds me that even the most desolate of landscapes can be restored by a single seed, a single gesture of connection that multiplies into a community of mutual support.
